#118- Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

Seita and Setsuko are struggling to survive during WWII in Japan. Their mother is killed in an air raid and their father is away fighting the war, so they go to live with their family in Tokyo. But since wartime is hard, the two leave their relative to live in a small shelter by the river. They gradually succumb to hunger and the only thing to give them hope is the light of fireflies.

Wow, this movie was so sad. I hadn’t read anything about it except the title, but I knew it wasn’t going to be one of the more upbeat movies that Studio Ghibli has come out with. However it was beautiful and I really enjoyed it.
